Historians often rely on memoirs in their research, but seldom write memoirs of their own. Waiting for Snow in Havana is a rare exception. Seventeen years after writing the book, author Carlos Eire, one of 14,000 children airlifted from Cuba in 1962 during its revolution, will reflect on the complex relationship between personal memory and history, and on the difficulty of dislodging deeply held beliefs based on lies, ideological propaganda, and misconceptions of history. Waiting for Snow in Havana won a National Book Award. Free and open to the public.
