Jennifer Fleischner, author of Mrs. Lincoln and Mrs. Keckly: The Remarkable Story of the Friendship Between a First Lady and a Former Slave, will present the lecture. Fleischner, editor of Harriet Jacobs: Incidents in the Life of a Slave Girl Written by Herself, will explore how Jacobs appealed to the moral sensibilities of northern women in her autobiography. Fleischner will also discuss the untenable situation of Jacobs and the wife of her owner. This talk is part of R-MC’s 2015-16 Interdisciplinary Women's Studies Speakers Series. Free and open to the public.
